About the Bseisu Foundation
We support bright students across the world to pursue higher education. We believe that the cornerstone of human development is empowering youth through education and accessibility. Intended for those unable to afford full-time study abroad, we provide scholarships for passionate and committed individuals and provide them with the support they need to maximise their educational experience.
We focus primarily on supporting young people, women and refugees who want to study STEM degrees at postgraduate level. We provide scholarships at internationally renowned universities across the UK, Ireland, US, Middle East and Malaysia.
We support our students financially through their studies as well as providing a community with shared experiences and a vibrant, high-achieving alumni network of fellow scholars.
Our mission
The Bseisu Foundation enables talented young people from Palestine, Syrian, Lebanon and Jordan, particularly those affected by conflict and displacement, to access high-quality higher education and ensure that access translates into long-term social, economic and civic contribution. It understands high quality higher education provision as a means to building regional leadership.
How we work
We work directly with scholars, universities, partner organisations and other charities to further our mission of development through accessible education.
-
We maintain a network of current and past scholars to cultivate a supportive community that maximises our students educational experience.
-
We work with universities to maximise and match their existing funding, bringing scholarships into reality. Our universities retain control of their admissions processes.
-
We work with partner organisations and charities to create joint scholarships and grants within our network of top universities, as well as providing partners with access to our network of brilliant graduates and alumni.
Our story
The Bseisu Foundation was founded in 2005 by Amjad and Suha Bseisu, whose experiences as first- and second-generation refugees inspired a commitment to expanding equal opportunities for disadvantaged communities. With an initial focus on the Levant and Malaysia, the Foundation began by supporting organisations that relieved poverty, advanced education and healthcare, and provided overseas aid and famine relief.
Over time, the Foundation has evolved into a multi-directional organisation with a strong focus on education and empowerment, particularly for women, young people and refugees. Central to this work is enabling talented individuals from the Levant and Malaysia to access world-class higher education, regardless of financial background.
By partnering with universities and organisations worldwide, the Foundation helps fund master’s scholarships and supports a broad range of charities united by a shared goal: empowering individuals, inspiring brighter minds, and creating lasting opportunities for future generations.
Letter from our Co-Founder
When we started the Bseisu Foundation in 2005, Suha and I had a simple conviction: brighter futures begin with access to education. As first- and second-generation refugees, we know how much potential can be lost when financial barriers close the doors to study. Our Foundation exists to help keep these doors open, at least for some students.
20 years later our mission continues to be clearer and more needed than ever. We invest in brighter futures by breaking down the financial barriers to higher education. We support talented students—especially young people, women and refugees—who are ready to work hard, lead with purpose and give back to their communities. In practice, that means postgraduate scholarships in STEM fields at world-class universities across the UK, the United States, the Middle East and Malaysia.
We design our programmes to be rigorous, transparent and fair. All scholarships are administered through university admissions teams or trusted partner organisations; we do not take applications directly. This safeguards academic integrity and ensures that selection is merit-based and needs-aware. Alongside tuition support, we offer a community of mentors, peers and a vibrant alumni network that share experience and open doors.
We work collaboratively with leading universities and partners who share our vision and embrace our belief that talent should never be limited by circumstance.
Our scholars are proof of what becomes possible when opportunity meets determination. They study, research and innovate; they return to their communities as clinicians, engineers, scientists and entrepreneurs. Most importantly, they carry forward a commitment to lift others as they themselves have been lifted.
We remain consistent in our support—to scholars during their studies, to our partners who deliver with integrity, and to the communities we serve. Education is not a quick fix, but it is one of the most powerful tools we have for lasting change.
Thank you for your interest in the Bseisu Foundation. If our values resonate with you, I hope you will follow our scholars’ journeys and, where you can, stand with us in investing in brighter minds and brighter futures. We chose the future! We chose hope!
With thanks,
Amjad Bseisu
