Bseisu-HESPAL Scholar at Warwick Manufacturing Group, 2024

I studied MSc in Sustainable Automotive Electrification at the WMG department, University of Warwick, where I focused on electric powertrain systems and vehicle electrification technologies. I graduated with Distinction and was honoured to receive the academic prize for best overall performance on the course, which was a proud and meaningful recognition of my efforts. My background in Mechatronics Engineering from Birzeit University equipped me with a strong background to complete my master’s degree.

Alongside my studies, I was elected as a Student Staff Liaison Officer (SSLA) and course representative. In this role, I shared student feedback with the WMG academic team and contributed to enhancing the course and supporting improvements for future cohorts. This experience also helped me significantly develop my soft skills, particularly in communication and presentation.

Living and studying in the UK was also a very enriching personal experience. It is a beautiful country with a rich history and diverse culture, and I was fortunate to explore many lovely cities and events during my time here. These experiences broadened my perspective and made my academic journey even more memorable.

During my time at university, I was also a volunteer with the Warwick Volunteer Society, which was a great opportunity to connect with nature, participate in outdoor activities, and build friendships beyond my academic environment.

One of the highlights and challenges of my final year was starting my role at AVL as a part-time intern in June while I was still completing my final module and thesis. This required strong time management, and it was incredibly valuable in helping me relate what I was studying in academia to real industry applications. After finishing my studies, I transitioned into a full-time position as a Control Engineer.

Currently, I am working at AVL on projects related to vehicle systems and electrification with several OEMs. Looking ahead, I hope to continue developing my expertise in sustainable mobility and contribute to advancing cleaner transportation technologies, especially in Palestine, while also staying engaged with mentoring and academic initiatives.

Finally, the Foundation and HESPAL team provided invaluable support throughout my studies, and the meetings and events where I connected with other scholars were especially helpful, both personally and professionally.
