Mariam

University of Glasgow, 2025-2026

Mariam, a Palestinian Refugee from Saida in South Lebanon, is a Master’s student in Data Analytics at the University of Glasgow in Scotland. Her journey has taken her far from home, starting at 18 years old when she moved to North Cyprus to study Mathematics and Computer Science at Eastern Mediterranean University. Leaving her family and living alone was challenging, but it shaped her confidence, independence, and determination.

During her undergraduate degree, she volunteered with AIESEC for three and a half years, an experience that was truly life-changing. She served as the Vice President of Talent Management and Membership Experience (HR), focusing on understanding people’s behaviors and analyzing data to build and implement strategies. This mix sparked her passion for people analytics, a path where she could truly embrace her personality.

After completing her degree, Mariam began a Master’s in Mathematics and worked as a teaching assistant but soon realized her true interest lay in data. Thanks to the Bseisu Scholarship, she now pursues her dream in Glasgow. Mariam aims to help organisations understand employee satisfaction and development to make informed decisions, believing success starts with people.

Outside her career ambitions, she enjoys reading and watching content on personal development, meeting new people of different backgrounds, playing tennis, and solving puzzles.

“I am passionate about data analysis and people management as it reflects my personality. It allows me to break down problems, look for patterns, and make decisions, just like solving puzzles. Also, it gives me room for creativity to come up with new ideas.”
